Wales’ gymnast Ruby Evans Achieves Olympic Dream

Selected for the GB Olympic Gymnastics Team for the Paris 2024 Games, Ruby becomes the first Welsh, Women’s Artistic gymnast to grace the Olympic stage since Sonia Lawrence’s selection for the Atlanta 1996 Games. Reflecting on her achievement, Ruby stated, “It’s so crazy to me that it has been that long. This is my second year as a senior so to be able to be part of the team for this Olympic cycle is something I never expected.”

“Aside from competing, I am really looking forward to being in the village and being around all the other athletes. When I think of the Olympics that’s what I imagine, just soaking up the experience”. Ruby shared eagerly.

Reflecting on the support system that has helped her reach this level of competition, Ruby emphasised, “my coach is the main person that’s helped me get here, she’s the reason I’m where I am at with my gymnastics. My parents have been amazing too, they have been so supportive for my whole gymnastics career so far and have always helped me get to Lilleshall for training, paid my fees, and cheered me on at competitions. Of course, all of the office staff at Welsh Gymnastics do so much behind the scenes, so they’ve been a massive support too”.

As she prepares to take on the world’s best in Paris, Ruby’s journey serves as a reminder that greatness knows no boundaries and that the path to success is paved with hard work, dedication, and unwavering belief.

What advice would you give to young gymnasts hoping to make the Olympics one day? Ruby pondered before offering the following advice, “don’t stress and keep composed. I try not to overthink when it comes to my gymnastics, I would say to try your best and not overthink are my main pieces of advice”.
