Welsh junior gymnast Ellie Lewis had the honour of representing Great Britain at the 25th edition of prestigious junior women’s artistic competition Top Gym in Belgium over the weekend.

The 14-year-old, who hails from Bridgend, was competing at the event for Britain alongside teammates Shantae-Eve Amankwaah, Scarlett Bullock and Abigail Martin.

On Sunday, Ellie and Scarlett joined counterparts from Canada for the team competition and went on to bag a stunning second. She also took fourth placed on uneven bars having finished 13th in the all-around competition the day before.

It caps a memorable first year as a junior for Ellie, the 2022 Welsh and British Aspire all-around champion.

In March she won junior gold on uneven bars, along with bronze on floor and in the all-around at the Artistic British Championships in Liverpool.

Back in the summer, she competed for Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Maribor, winning bronze in the Girls Team Final alongside fellow Welsh star Jemima Taylor and Ema Kandalova.

Last month she was part of the Clwb Cymru Caerdydd team who were crowned British women’s team champions alongside Ruby Evans, Poppy-Grace Stickler, Mali Morgan and Evie Flage-Donovan.

It is the first time since 1983 that a Welsh club had won the prestigious British women’s senior team title.

Ellie, who began her gymnastics journey at Pen-y-Bont Gymnastics Club, trains at the national centre at Sport Wales under the guidance of the national coaches.

Well done Ellie and coaches!
