Gymnastics action at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games concludes tomorrow with Team Wales rhythmic gymnasts Elizabeth Popova and Gemma Frizelle bidding to bring the curtain down in style with a medal.

Both will be involved in the ball final with Gemma also in the hoop final while Elizabeth goes in the clubs final.

In today’s individual all-around final, Elizabeth and Gemma ended 12th and 13th respectively.

At just 15 years of age, Elizabeth was the youngest gymnast in the final. She scored a total of 102.750 points – up from 100.500 in qualifying – which included 26.400 with the hoop, 25.800 with the ball, 25.500 with the clubs and 24.250 with the ribbon.

Her score with the hoop saw her gain three whole marks from qualification, while her 24.250 ribbon score exceeded the 20.100 she put on the scoreboard in qualifying,

Gemma, 24, competing at her second Games, finished with a total of 98.300 in the final – scoring 25.050 with the hoop, 25.800 with the ball, 26.450 with the ball and 21.000 with the ribbon.

The all-around final was won by Marfa Ekimova who, with a total score of 112.300, made history to become the first English gymnast to win the all-around title at a Games.
